When it comes to quality, no other fast food restaurant can compete with Wendy’s. To demonstrate this in a way that entertained our fans and leveraged our growing success in gaming, we hosted a Super Smash Bros tournament against ourselves on Twitch.
Our levels were downloaded by hundreds of gamers, three Smash Ultimate Semi-Pros battled on our stream, and our Wendy Mii Fighter peaked at #46 on the most downloaded fighters page (right behind Thanos & John Wick).
The Tourney
Using the Mii Creator and Stage Creator in the game, we created 32 unique Wendys and 12 different Wendy’s-themed stages.
Every fighter was Wendy, every match was at a Wendy’s, and Wendy’s always won.
On a Twitter moment, we posted our entire roster of 32 Wendys with their own backstory, giving followers a Wendy to root for.
Ad Space
When you host your own tournament, you own all the ad space. So we created our own ads that fit directly into the game.
We also snuck in subtle messaging, like limiting game items to fire swords and chickens to represent Spicy Chicken.
Queen of the Hill
After the tourney, we opened up a second event for our fans where they could put their skills to the test. Only as Wendy, of course.
Some dude even streamed himself practicing for it. For 8 hours.
